In the world there are 7 species of sea turtles of which 6 visit Mexico, this makes Mexico the number one country in Sea Turtles. Of these 6 species that visit Mexico, 4 visit the coasts of Oaxaca, which makes Oaxaca the most important state for sea turtles in all of Mexico. Note: The only sea turtle that does not visit Mexico is the flatback turtle, which is found only in Australia. ALL SPECIES OF SEA TURTLES ARE IN DANGER OF EXTINCTION.
The sea turtles that VIVEMAR protects are:
Sea turtles play a very important role in the ecological balance in the ocean, proclaimed as a key species for human survival, the oceans give us 70% of the oxygen we breathe on land, plants 30%. Sea turtles have accompanied the ecological cycles in the ocean since the time of the dinosaurs, imagine their importance!
The sea turtle season begins and ends in August of each year, the results of our work season 2017 – 2022:
Vulnerable Status
Endangered Status
Critically Endangered Status
Critically Endangered Status
THESE WERE THE RESULTS OF OUR WORK 2011 – 2023.
We are constantly growing and implementing improvements to keep our work team trained and at the forefront, for which its collaborators have been trained in different workshop courses that have been implemented by different academies, agencies and private institutions. Which provide greater skills within the same community, better plans for conservation, greater skill in night patrols, greater scientific knowledge, visionary development for people in the community, better conservation plans for nature and stronger environmental education.
At the same time, we developed a project of high importance, which is why its name; ALTURA PROJECT, in this project we place the PIT and metal plate on the LARGEST SEA TURTLE IN THE WORLD, this unique species on earth due to its risk category, we have decided to work in a more methodical way in order to carry out processes of conservation and protection that further benefit the conservation of the only Dinosaur that inhabits the earth.
Contributing with more detailed information that is shared with Biologists and Scientists around the world in order to contribute to the species, that is why VIVEMAR also belongs to the RED LAÚD OPO.
